No Fear, Persevere!

No Fear, Persevere!

Maria "Hatecopy" Qamar

See Maria (hatecopy) Qamar’s large-scale, lenticular pop-art display through a satirical lens. Her creation comments on the themes of patriarchy, hypocrisy, systemic racism and stereotypes, while also celebrating sisterhood, love and South Asian culture, through the influence of Indian soap operas.

In this lenticular installation, Qamar's subjects work together to tell a story of four women experiencing phases of growth; from fear to persevere. The abstract nature of the work when viewed head-on invites movement and dialogue about the audience's own relation to their personal adversities. The lenticular element represents the complexity of hidden emotion and words unsaid; that women and girls are expected to move through life silently or face consequences for sharing a different point of view. The mural unites these women, from all phases of life, to celebrate resilience and community. This is a spatial embodiment of the fight against self-doubt and challenges the viewer to approach fear as a step towards freedom. Together, we can move and honour the women who lead silent revolutions every day to show us a new perspective.
